25 Years of Environmental Commitment – EMAS at LEUNA-Harze GmbH
On March 11, LEUNA-Harze GmbH welcomed Hendrik Senkbeil (Managing Director of Site Policy at the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Silvana Theis (Energy and Environment Officer at the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Commerce and Industry) to receive the honorary certificate for the company’s 25th EMAS anniversary. Since the year 2000, LEUNA-Harze has met the requirements of the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and has been listed in the EMAS register.
As an EMAS-registered company, LEUNA-Harze goes beyond the legal minimum requirements, making a valuable contribution to environmental and climate protection.
For an energy-intensive chemical company, it is essential to regularly identify potential savings and efficiency improvements. Through its annual EMAS environmental statement, LEUNA-Harze sets ambitious improvement goals—such as optimizing facilities and adjusting production processes.
The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is the world’s most rigorous environmental management system. Companies that register with EMAS voluntarily commit to continuously improving their environmental performance beyond legal requirements.
EMAS-certified businesses must:
- Comply with all relevant environmental regulations
- Regularly review and adjust their environmental goals
- Transparently disclose their progress in an environmental statement
- Undergo validation by independent auditors
By doing so, EMAS not only ensures sustainable processes but also strengthens competitiveness and public trust in responsible business practices.
For LEUNA-Harze GmbH, EMAS certification is a cornerstone of sustainable operations and a key component of our "Move to Green" strategy. We take great pride in being EMAS-certified for 25 years and will continue working closely with the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Commerce and the auditing authority to maintain and further develop our sustainable production practices.
